Each time I take the train, I am really impressed by the excellent service we get from VIA Rail!!! I am a senior who needs assistance. At the train station in Ottawa and onboard, the staff give assistance with a smile and with friendly attitude!! Thank you! You make travelling a great experience!!
We LOVE Via-Rail. Both the Ottawa and Montréal stations were great - and, this time, we got to take advantage of the Business Lounge on both ends. It was lovely. Everyone working on board was friendly and helpful and we were, frankly, shocked at the quality of our lunch. The only issues we had from front to back was making changes to an existing booking online. (I had to call and it took awhile.) And the app is down right now. It seems that Via-Rail is great - except for the technical side. All else was wonderful.
Via rail takes forever to answer their phone. All i wanted to do was cancel a trip which should be able to be done easily online but for some reason i need an account. The last time i was on the train the chairs were extremely uncomfortable, they had no plugs, they had none of the food items on the menu, and it was overpriced. Than again i guess i can't expect anything good from a state run train system. Ill never take it again

Know before you go
- Arrive early (20-30 minutes before departure) to ensure smooth boarding process
- Consider booking tickets 3 weeks in advance for better deals
- Be prepared for potential delays on busy routes like Toronto-Ottawa; mind social distancing guidelines during travel
- If facing issues or seeking assistance, try reaching out to specific helpful staff members mentioned in reviews such as Arthur or Myraline
Reviews
Via-Rail receives mixed reviews from travelers, with some praising the excellent service and assistance provided by staff at stations and onboard trains. Positive comments highlight the seamless boarding process, friendly attitudes of employees, and comfortable station facilities. However, there are complaints about outdated train cars, uncomfortable seats, limited food options, and high ticket prices. Some reviewers also express frustration with difficulties in getting refunds or resolving issues with delays. Despite these challenges, there are instances of exceptional customer service noted by specific staff members like Arthur in Fallowfield and Myraline in Ottawa.

Good sized train station with escalators, ramps and elevators. They have a small snack shop inside, but if you have time to kill, there are a ton of shops and eateries that are a 5 min drive or 20Min walk away! Would highly recommend arriving about 20-30mins before your trains scheduled departure to get in line for boarding!
I like taking the train but the way this terminal is designed sucks. They have a "Business Lounge" that's only accessible if you have a Business level ticket. That's fine but if you want to charge your phone or laptop there are scattered few places to do that. There is no where that I can use my laptop while plugged in and considering I am traveling for work it's brutal that they require you to have a business class ticket in order to access a plug placed anywhere near a chair.
